ACN Inc, alleged to be the world’s largest direct selling telecommunications company has operations in twenty countries in three continents. So if you are a network marketer in US, Europe or Asia Pacific, you would have definitely chanced upon the prospect of earning as a rep for this company’s products.
First, let’s glance at the background of the company and find out how profitable this venture’s likely to be?
ACN Business – What’s it about?
Four entrepreneurs, Greg Provenzano, Robert Stevanovski, Mike Cupisz and Tony Cupisz founded this company in Farmington Hills, Michigan in 1993 to offer local and long distance telephones, internet, wireless, satellite TV with DirecTV and Home Security. These products and services are sold through Network Marketing,i.e, by hiring representatives to market products and engage more distributors. This company claims to be different from other MLMs by offering reps a residual income for the work done.
What is Residual income?
As a rep in ACN, your payment is a percentage on your client’s service worth depending on your level. You earn a residual income for your service, that is, you earn money for as long as the customer uses the product.. So once you’ve closed a deal, your client just has to use the service you’ve sold to allow you to earn.. Tempting? Rethink that!
Criticisms
Are these claims based on the truth? Let’s find out
1. The commission is very low This is to enable the company to survive amidst heavy competition.
2. You’ll have to make an investment of 499 bucks to join.
3. Though you get a commission based on your customer’s usage, it’s payable only when the minimum usage is 10000 bucks.
4. As a previous employee pointed out, you earn more in ACN by recruiting people than by selling products.
5. ACN marketing strategy is to target your (warm market) which are your friends and family to build your business. In a few days, you’ll find that this market is not warm anymore.
Crowded Space
The telecommunications area has always been a crowded place with the big telecoms of Sprint, AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile. Sure you can switch but there are some issues. I tried to switch my iphone 3gs to ACN and was told I couldn’t. Really? Don’t you know iphone sells like 2 million units a month?
There has been some talk online about crazy cancellation fee which lock in users to long term contracts which don’t sit pretty if you plan to port an entire family over to ACN.
But the biggest thing is the amount of companies entering into the telecom wirelss industry. Global Verge has stepped up with their Buzzirk platform and even with some hiccups has been taking some market share. Traverus Travel has decided to join the fun and also launch their own phone services. The biggest competition comes from the Christian founded network marketing opportunity in 5Linx which seems to be gaining major ground on ACN.
So where does this leave us?
Do not give up. You could still work in ACN and be successful.
To be truly successful, you need go beyond the usual and tap your customer base. Find a way to make your business visible to vast market and get them to approach you The best way to do is by using the internet to promote your business. Follow new tactics in making your business visible to all and be happy with the results.
